Clubhouse Yarns – After Golf Recovery Plan

You finish 18 holes feeling alright… then the next morning rolls around and you move like you’ve gone ten rounds with a concrete mixer.
Sound familiar?
Most golfers put a heap of effort into their swing, their gear, and their pre-round routine — then completely ignore what happens after the round. That’s fine if you’re 22 and made of rubber. The rest of us need to show the body a bit more respect.
This isn’t about ice baths, yoga retreats, or pretending you’re a professional athlete.
It’s just a simple, sensible way to recover so you can back up next week without feeling cooked.
Step 1: Rehydrate like you mean it
Golf sneaks dehydration up on you. Sun, walking, swings, and “one more beer” all add up.
Water first. Then whatever you like.
Step 2: Eat something that helps
Pub food has its place, but your body will thank you for protein, carbs, and a bit of colour on the plate.
Step 3: Move gently, don’t collapse
A short walk and light mobility beats doing nothing.
Step 4: Look after the usual trouble spots
Back, hips, shoulders, elbows — you know yours. A few minutes helps more than ignoring it.
Step 5: Sleep is the real recovery tool
Stretching helps. Sleeping fixes things.
Step 6: Be honest the next day
If something’s sore every round, that’s feedback.
Final word
Recovery doesn’t need to be complicated.
Drink water. Eat reasonably. Move a bit. Sleep properly.
That’s how you play more golf for longer.
